FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How is RDNA so accurate?

The surface (and where detectable, the sub-surface) of any material contains structural characteristics such as fibres which, when taken in combination, are a unique pattern. RDNA’s algorithms translate this into a digital string which reflects this uniqueness.

We already use swipe scanners to read information on our documents. Can the RDNA scan head be integrated into them?

RDNA is designed for this environment. Subject to space availability inside the scanner. Currently the size of the head is 1.5cm x 2cm x 1.5cm.

Can the RDNA Scanner detect changes in the content of the document as well as the validity of the document itself?

RDNA can use multiple scan heads and differently sized scan areas to detect changes, for example to the value of a cheque or bank draft

How fast can RDNA profile a document?

As fast as the document can be read by the scanner. Currently this is around 8 pages/minute. This can be increased by using multiple scanheads. If the RDNA scan heads are integrated into an existing scanner, it typically will take no longer to scan a document

How long does it take to confirm that a document is genuine?

The document has to be reprofiled, as above. Matching this profile to the original in the database is effectively instantaneous

How long is the digital profile?

The profile is around 100 bytes long

Where is the profile held?

There are three options. RDNA can hold the profile in its own database on the local server, thus requiring no change at all to the organization’s existing schemas. Alternatively the profile can be added to any ODBC-compliant database. The third option is to use a closed-loop system where the profile is written back onto the document as, for example, a 2-D barcode

Is there a limit to the number of document profiles that can be held in the database?

There is no limit beyond disk capacity

What architecture has RDNA been developed to?

RDNA is available in client server, application server, and PC versions. The PC version is used for the evaluation pack, as this makes the system as rapid as possible to set up and assess. If appropriate to the organization’s needs, the operational system can also be application server based. The client server version is suited to an environment where the organization wants to keep control of all aspects of the system within their own environment. Rogue DNA hosts an application server for organizations who want implementation to be as straightforward as possible

What materials does RDNA work with?

RDNA can profile virtually any material, although the standard readers are suited to paper, card, and plastic at this time. However rogueDNA can work with other materials upon request

You mention that a document can be dirty, damp, or creased. How tolerant is it?

As a guideline, RDNA will work with any document that a human official would accept. We don’t need to distinguish one document from another, but we do want to confirm that the document itself is genuine. RDNA includes the option to do this

Does lamination affect accuracy?

No, the scanning process looks right through it, and can in fact use the characteristics of the glue as part of the material profile

What languages is RDNA available in?

RDNA is fully internationalized. Any language can be implemented rapidly in response to demand, subject to an order being placed and the string translations being provided by the partner/customer

What training is required?

The process is designed to be very straightforward for the user. If they’re using a standard RDNA document scanner they simply position the document and the scanner will automatically pull the document into and back out of the scanner. Notification of whether the document has passed or failed is displayed on a computer screen. The operator only has to be aware that the document should be fairly level and should not be forced into the scanner.

Where RDNA components are to be integrated into an existing scanner, e.g. MICR, OCR-B, magnetic stripe, etc, rogueDNA can undertake this.

The central client/server software is also designed to be easily installed by a reasonably technical person. Full statistics are maintained – these are self-explanatory. A User Manual is provided.
