SWIPE SCANNERS

The RDNA 6120 Document Scanner is a rugged unit which will withstand a high degree of wear and tear. It is motorized to facilitate the flow of the document past the scanhead. Multiple scanheads can be incorporated if required, enabling different parts of a document to be verified. For example, on a passport the passport number, photograph, and OCR lines can be separately scanned and individually verified.
In operation the user feeds the document into the scanner, which scans a pre-defined area. The reflectance characteristics in this area are analyzed and transformed into a digital string, or profile, which is stored in a database or back on the document as the unique identifier for this document. Scanners are connected to an RDNA-based server, which handles access to the database of registered documents and provides management information on usage, success rates, etc. A central server is highly desirable where the document is produced in one location but can be read in many. Passports, driver’s licenses, and bank cheques and drafts are obvious examples.
For environments where access to a central server is impractical, e.g. remote border crossings, the system can be completely stand-alone and self-contained. In this case the DNA of a new document is generated and written back on the document, either on an RFID chip or printed as a 2-D barcode. When subsequently authenticated the document is re-scanned and the DNA is compared with the one on the chip or barcode to ensure they are the same.
